African government leaders rank energy high on their agendas. We are proud to have worked with many of them over the past decade, through the Power Africa Senior Advisors Group programme, to make power sectors deliver for citizens and businesses across Africa.
By working with leaders in 13 countries and at regional level in East and West Africa, we contributed to 24 strategic plans, 42 laws, policies or regulations and seven competitive procurement processes. We also helped leaders leverage $1.5 billion of investment funding for more reliable, accessible and cleaner power solutions. Those are numbers, but not just numbers: they are part of our story of helping leaders set out a clear direction for their power sectors – and deliver on it.
In Nigeria, the mass deployment of smart electricity meters – a total of six million when completed – revolutionised the electricity sector, enhancing energy management and access. This achievement was driven by government leaders who championed the adoption of innovative technologies. In West Africa, the synchronisation of electricity grids was a milestone in our efforts to help ECOWAS member states deliver on the promise of a fully integrated regional power market, which will benefit consumers and attract investors. Lastly, in Mozambique, the national energy-transition strategy, which was developed with our support as part of the programme, will help position the country as a key player for effective energy transitions in the wider region in the years to come.
A collaborative partnership and generous funding from Power Africa made this work possible. We are immensely grateful for their trust and support throughout the years.
